Picture 6: The First Practice Teaching in Grade 7 – Archimedes

My mentor and friends from CTE said that teaching Grade 7 – Archimedes needs an extra effort because most of them more attractive compared than the other classes. I felt enthusiast to teach them. I think that the students in the lowest grade of senior high school were cute and charming. On Monday, February 4th was my first practice teaching in Grade 7. The first material that I taught  was “Four Basic Sentence Patterns”.

Before teaching, I have submitted my lesson plan to Ma’am Bacister as my mentor. She revised a few parts which needed to be improved before it was implemented on real teaching. After getting approval from Ma’am Bacister, I was ready to teach in the classroom. The time was coming, I entered Grade 7. Yaa, as I supposed before, from their face I can see they were very welcome to a new teacher. Teaching grammar actually a bit difficult and such a boring thing. You know, teaching grammar is so tricky. The students are expected to understand well and knowing the essentials of grammar itself.

In teaching grammar, I tried to insert a game to make it funny since I know that grade 7 loved to play games. I called the game as “Running to The Board” (It was explained in my lesson plan above). After the game was over, I asked the group to read the sentences that they have created on the whiteboard. Because each of them has to write only one word, as the result they create super funny paragraph if they read into one unity. From the game “Running to The Board”. I expected the students could analyze and differentiate the four basic sentence patterns.

At the end of the game, we could define which group became the winner. The class went smoothly till all the students asked me to make a second round for the game. Unfortunately, the time was over and we have to end the class soon. I felt glad being a teacher who had them as my students.
